Mission
Our mission is to create theatre that transports you to another time and place…to consider the mysterious, the exhilarating, the hilarious, and the profound in what otherwise appear to be simple human stories. We primarily look to historical pieces from the 19th & early 20th centuries – especially works by authors with connection to the Berkshires and stories about local history and people. We’re also committed to fostering new plays that reflect the history to which we are heir.
Pythagoras Theatre Works is a small professional theatre company located in the historic and picturesque town of West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Our goal is to create vibrant theatre in an historic venue, and to celebrate the rich cultural and literary history of the Berkshires.
We’ve created a relationship with the West Stockbridge Historical Society and its president Robert Salerno, along with the Town of West Stockbridge and its governing bodies to create theatre in the heart of our town, to enrich the lives of our townspeople and visitors, to create opportunities for our local economy, to celebrate our rich local history, and to advance the restoration and revitalization of the historic 1854 Town Hall.
The Berkshires is the artistic home to many brilliant actors, musicians, designers and artisans. We’re sure you’ve had the pleasure of seeing their work, and we’ve often had the pleasure of working with them. We support our local artists and we make it our first priority to collaborate with and employ them.
We are also surrounded with a diverse cadre of enterprising business owners of the highest caliber. We source all of our business needs locally, and endeavor to create gains for all our local vendors and organizations.
The Berkshires is rich in culture and is one of the greatest concentrations of cultural offerings anywhere in the world. We count ourselves lucky to have such wealth. Please support our fellow artistic organizations. They all do astounding work that makes a difference. We are also committed to helping our fellow arts organizations however we can.
Pythagoras Theatre Works operates under a Special Appearance Agreement with Actors’ Equity Association, the Union of Professional Actors and Stage Managers in the United States.
We are a 501c(3) nonprofit organization operating at the pleasure of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and her generous citizenry.
